Breslau Rallye 2020

Team Dust Warriors participated in the Breslau Rally in the summer of 2020 with the DAF rally truck and a Yamaha side-by-side. Just 100 kilometres after the start, on 15 September, the side-by-side toppled into a river while climbing a steep hill. With the help of another team, the side-by-side was put upright again and was able to continue. Later in the day, about 20 kilometres before the finish, a rim broke into 1,000 pieces, causing the side-by-side to veer left into the verge. The side-by-side’s suspension ended up 100 metres away and the shock absorber was in two pieces. The side-by-side and crew were picked up by the sweeper hours later. On arrival at the bivouac, the service team worked on the side-by-side until 4:00 am to get it ready for another rally day. New shock absorbers were even driven to the rally from the Netherlands, which the team installed just in time for the start. All in all it was a tough job but the desired result was achieved: the team could make the start again. Team DAF had a more solid start and drove a good day.

Shortly after the transfer to bivouac 2, the drive shaft in the side-by-side broke. This meant the side-by-side had to drive the rest of the rally with 1 x 4, which doesn’t really work in the loose sand and deep puddles. Nevertheless, the team managed to finish in the middle of the pack. A great debut!
Team DAF actually drove a very good rally and even managed to secure a podium spot by finishing 3rd in the classification.

Driving a rally through forest and heathland turns out to be very different to navigating in the desert. The forest and heathland require extreme concentration because many small sections follow each other in rapid succession. During this rally too, the team gained a lot of new experience that will be taken forward into the future!
